Web design... with a conscience
I believe creativity and technology has an important role in changing the world for the better, and that a dynamic and creative web presence is fundamental for a progressive organisation.
My vision is of a world where people are given the tools to empower themselves, to create equal access to resources, and the ability to form sustainable communities.
Every person, given the right opportunities, can take individual action to contribute towards achieving a sustainable, fair and equal world.
What is unXPOSEd?
Me - aka Colin Meinke. I develop creative, innovative and unique digital solutions for NGO's, charities, non-profit organisations and businesses working towards a better world.
The primary mantra of unXPOSEd is 'Web design... with a conscience' but I also create other internet based projects, digital image and video work.
My passion is for technology and new media, and its ability to create positive change.
I have a highly creative background with a degree in Fine Art. On its conclusion web design seemed the natural solution to address my desire to find the most democratic and progressive creative outlet, whilst also, you know... maintaining a job. I then gained commercial experience as a web designer and hand coder, with a fanaticism for accessibility and web standards, before setting up unXPOSEd.
Occasionally I collaborate with specialists from a network of friends and freelancers on larger projects requiring skill sets outside of my range. Between us we have it all covered.
What unXPOSEd do differently?
In our image saturated, brand based culture it's essential that design is exciting and fresh, and that brand continuity is strong - two fundamental aspects often missed in a sector where content is justifiably the priority. The simple solution... let's have it all.
I specialise in producing web based solutions that are accessible, usable and meet W3C web standards. What does this mean? It means that I make sure the projects are available and easy to use for the widest audience possible - people using all modern browsers, varying internet speeds and different screen resolutions. People with visual, motor, mobility, developmental and learning disabilities should all have the right to perceive, understand, navigate, interact and contribute to the web - and that's why I build projects with all of this in mind.
For more about accessibility, please view the Accessibility, usability & web standards section.
A conscience?
Primarily it's the target market. NGO's, charities, non-profit organisations and businesses working towards a better world. This includes local businesses and community groups - any organisation, company or individual promoting sustainability, equality, social justice, peace, integration, regeneration, open source, fair trade, organic produce or democracy.
This can be summed up with more clarity by defining who I won't work with. I can promise that unXPOSEd will not work with any unethical company, which I define as: Any business that does not adhere to the European Convention on Human Rights; promotes any form of discriminatory practice or values; has a negative impact on the environment; or that puts profit before human welfare.
I am committed to working towards a sustainable environment and wherever possible, in both unXPOSEd's setup and projects I will ensure environmental responsibility. I try to minimise the ecological footprint of every project, and unXPOSEd's web provider is Green Web Host, a carbon neutral ISP. unXPOSEd promotes local services, recycling and embraces energy saving technology.
Keep an eye on this page for the unXPOSEd environmental policy, which is in the making.
